What’s the most unusual or rare item you’ve ever come across?
I was lucky enough to handle a very rare solid silver Hermes Kelly handbag. It was so unusual to see a handbag made of solid silver – especially a Hermes handbag. At 15cm wide it was fully functional and even featured a removable Chaine d’Ancre chain for a shoulder strap. I have seen a version listed for $225,000.
Which era of history fascinates you the most, and why?
I have a particular love for Georgian jewellery. It is rare to see original pieces of Georgian jewellery and the ones that are still in existence are very beautiful. They used delicate techniques to create beautiful designs set with paste, gems and diamonds. They often chose the gemstone based on how it looked in candlelight . They also upcycled their jewellery as and when the styles changed.
Do you have a personal favourite piece in your collection?
One of my favourite items of jewellery is my Vintage Cartier Paris Nouvelle Vague Dangle Ring in 18ct gold. In all my years of working in jewellery it is the only one I have ever seen. It’s got a very unusual design and I love it.
